I heard this from my brother recently. Hes a die hard Fiona fan.
There's a new story out that an insider at Sony said that Fiona Apple was really displeased with what Jon Brion had produced. Apparently she made the call to bail on the project until she and Sony found a producer more suitable for what she wanted for her third album. I forget the name of the producer, but it's someone who does electronic music. So she's going to go back into the studio and re-record the album with this new guy. So it was not Sony's fault in the first place that the album got shelved.
Have you guys heard anything on this?

Mon, July 25, 2005 - 9:41 AMdo artists have this sort of creative control with their labels? couldn't sony just put it out anyway? i don't know much about the music machine or the details of fiona's contract, but often times it seems the industry does as it pleases. good to hear this perspective tho, heather! it gives me hope that an album will soonish be forthcoming.

Mon, July 25, 2005 - 2:18 PMI thought that Sony shelved it because they "didn't hear a single", something that Fiona said ".....and?" to. but then it leaked to the internet and Sony was forced to release it (obviously not yet, but soon). I believe I read it somewhere. I could be completely wrong. I'll try to find a link.
